Summer day camp almost full, activities listed

With the school year coming to an end, West Seneca Youth and Recreation is gearing up for its second summer of activities.

So far, the department has seen increased interest in the day camp program in the second year, creating a wait list for weeks two through six and limited spots left in week one.

The camp is for children ages 6 to 14 and runs 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday starting Monday, June 29. The camphasa2to10ratioofdirectors to children and includes two weekly field trips, two weekly pool days, games and crafts.

Also planned are trips to the West Seneca Library and the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, a talent show, Youth Theatre workshop and beach days. Field trips include the Strong Museum in Rochester, Fantasy Island and a Bisons Game.

“Every child gets the opportunity to do things and go places they may never have before. It could be their first time at a baseball game. The trip to the Eternal Flame is a good chance to learn more about nature. There’s also an opportunity for children to enroll in the Summer Swim lessons for an additional fee,” said Lauren Masset, a supervisor in the Recreation Department.

Town swim programs begin as early as 24 months.

“All of our programs focus on building confidence, personal growth, leadership and skill development,” Masset said.

Registration information is available at the West Seneca Youth and Recreation office, 50 Legion Parkway. For more information call 674-6086 or visit www.westseneca.net.
