West indoor track throwers compete at Lancaster

The throwing crew took center stage at Lancaster’s Field House Saturday when West Seneca West’s throwers took part in the annual Rock and Roll Throw-Off.

Senior Joseph Castoire reset his own school record by tossing the weight throw 60-feet-0. The toss bettered the Section VI and state championship qualifying standards for the event, and fell just 1 foot shy of the national championship qualifying standard. Castoire also threw a personal best in the shot put, heaving it 44-2½.

Junior John Cantafio threw a personal best 36-10 in the shot put as well, while sophomore Joseph Hauser threw a personal best 30-1 in the same event. Sophomore

Danielle Lambert, meanwhile, tossed the weight in the weight throw a season best of 36-9.

“The throwers’ performances really continued a steady trend of improvement throughout the season,” West throwing coach Brian Kader said. “The four male and three female throwers who have qualified for the postseason all have things they can improve upon in the coming weeks to position themselves for a chance at qualifying for the state championships. If the Throw-Off results are any indication of how they will finish, this should be an exciting couple of weeks.”

The entire West team will return to action Friday by taking part in the Team Championships at Houghton College.
