HEAP outreach scheduled for Jan. 17

Residents will receive a little help as they apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program during two upcoming outreach programs, one in West Seneca and another in East Aurora.

HEAP is a federally funded program to assist income-eligible Erie County residents with the costs of home heating, electricity and energy conservation.

The programs, hosted by Erie County Legislator Joseph Lorigo, will be administered by the Erie County departments of Social Services and Senior Services and is open to all income-eligible households.

The East Aurora outreach program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the East Aurora Senior Center, 101 King St.

The West Seneca program will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the West Seneca Senior Center, 4620 Seneca St.

Applicants are asked to come prepared with the following:

• Proof of income received within the past 30 days for all household members, such as pay stubs, Social Security or pension award letters, proof of child support, rental income, unemployment benefits or worker’s compensation.

• At least one form of ID for all household members, unless a driver’s license is provided.

• Current utility bills, or shutoff or disconnect notices, if applicable.

• Proof of all household resources including current checking and savings account bank statements, and proof of other resources such as stocks, bonds, CDs, IRAs or 401ks.

Erie County residents can also apply online by visiting www.mybenefits.ny.gov.

If the applicant is missing information, the customer is allowed 10 business days to provide the information needed to fulfill application requirements.
